Lock Up Your Daughters - band night
Friday 19th February

LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS is a response to the boredom and braindead stagnation that plagues modern gay culture. It’s a cut’n’paste makeshift zine for queer grrlies (and their friends) who are sick and tired of being associated with a community who, judging by 99% of its output, is governed by a complete lack of imagination. We believe it’s time to step beyond the self-loathing, gender identity defining, quarrelling and pervasive climate of misery they exist in, it’s time to change the fucking record and move on. Whilst there is no shortage of amazing contributors in music, writing, design, photography, film, events and general weird shit it is overshadowed by whinging old dykes who still aren’t happy because a civil partnership IS NOT THE SAME AS A MARRIAGE! Oh boo bloody hoo, the real tragedy is that the good shit might never reach most because people like you won’t shut the fuck up already. It’s time to shake off the shackles brought about through a history of taking ourselves too seriously. Strap in, fuck your gender and remember that not every decision you make has to be judged within an outdated and rigid political framework. Wanting to have some fun does not make you a traitor. .....liz phair, le tigre, ,bjork, the shins, elliott smith, chicks on speed, broken social scene, the ramones, new buffalo, the organ, yeah yeah yeahs, coco rosie, electrocute, pendulum, the decemberists, the dresden dolls, suede, MIA, the scissor sisters, tilly and the wall, kristen hersh, grandaddy, belle and sebastian, The moldy peaches, unkle, ladytron, the kills, peaches, the smiths, the distillers, roxy music, electrelane, blondie, lesbopig, quasi, pixies, babes in toyland, the arcade fire, regina spector, gravy train!!!!, modest mouse the gossip, lady sovereign, uffie, miss kitten, CSS, Patrick wolf, the blow, scream club, smoosh, stereolab, battles, avalanches, the amps, arcade fire, boards of Canada, CAN, sonic youth, rumiko junior, adult., the black keys, diane cluck, Interpol, the breeders, Valerie, hooker, bratmobile, postal service, seasick steve, eels, felix da housecat, fischerspooner, the knife, the figs, pavement, rae spoon, TIGA, holly go lightly, 65 days of static, birdy nam nam, aphrodite, shy fx, fannypack, jenna riot, Teenage Badgirl, Kadinsky, Neutral Milk Hotel

SINGLES NIGHT
Saturday 20th February

Singles Night is the venture into sound from Messers Beans and Divine! After years of carrying large bags of 12" packages of musical treats they've decided that all good things tend to come in 7" form. Singles Night does what it says on the label - 45s only ALL NIGHT! And if you do happen to be single, then you're very welcome too... Expect a selection of the finest 45s from the minds of ANDREW DIVINE! (Glasgow School of Art) and CHRIS 'BEANS' GEDDES (BELLE AND SEBASTIAN). We could list a whole bunch of random records here - suffice to say, SINGLES NIGHT will play right across the board, celebrating seven inches of music spinning at 45 revolutions per minute from whatever decade. From Bo Diddley to De La Soul, from Orange Juice to the 13th Floor Elevators, from LCD Sound System to Lee Perry, Chic to The 1990s - we could go on. But we won't...

French Horn Rebellion/Maple Leaves (at PinUp)
Friday 26th February

Our star live headliners are French Horn Rebellion ( http://www.frenchhornrebellion.com ). Robert and David are a shiny electropop duo from Brooklyn, New York, who came to our attention last autumn with their tremendous single “Up All Night”, which you might have heard being played all over Radio 1 and 6Music. Mixmag made it Electro Tune of the Month, Artrocker gave it 5 stars for its “sparkling synths and vocal bridges of epic scale” and to top things off Kitsune chose it for the highly prestigious opening slot on their latest Kitsuné Maison 8 Compilation. FHR are visiting Pin Ups as part of a UK tour to promote their new EP “Beaches and Friends”, out 1st March. In support of FHR will be the sweet harmonic indiepop of Maple Leaves (fronted by Anna Miles - http://www.myspace.com/mapleleavesmusic) and a band that those in the know are calling "the best new band in Scotland" (!), Conquering Animal Sound ( fronted by Anneke Kampman - http://www.myspace.com/conqueringanimalsound ).

THE SCHOOL , Allo' Darlin' & The Social Services
Saturday 13th March

After our last bout of gigs just about killed us, we’ve taken a break for a while but we are with a popshow that will be unmissable for fans of dreamy girl-pop fronted by singers called Elizabeth. The School are an eight-piece pop group from Wales that makes gorgeous, shimmering pop of the kind Phil Spector had a hand in before he went a bit mental. Following on from their ace single All I Wanna Do and Let It Slip EP, they’re set to release their much-anticipated debut album early in 2010. We are hugely excited to have them back in Glasgow and playing at Half My Heart Beats. In much the same vein, Allo, Darlin’ have been slowly building something of a cult following with a string of brilliant releases on the WeePOP! and Fortuna POP! labels. They like record labels that end in POP!, you see. Live performances all over the place in 2009, not least at London Popfest, have helped spread the gospel of the Darlin’ even further. Their forthcoming single, The Polaroid Song, is surely going to feature on plenty of best-of-2009 lists. It deserves to, anyway, because it’s fucking ace. Includes to Half My Heart Beats which follows the show.
